I am moving and I will not be setting up my fish tank for a while. I have found a home for the fish but I’m concerned with storing the fish tank empty for a long time. I’ve heard that this can lead to cracking of the sealant and the tank will not be able to hold water. Not sure if this is true. I was planning to store my tank in my storage shed but it’s not air conditioned or heated so the tank may get very hot or frozen. Any tips would be helpful. Thanks!

We stored ours for months in an outdoor shed before it went to it’s new home with one of my friends. She has not had any problems with the seal.

It should not matter if it is hot or cold when storing a tank. This should not lead to cracking. Especially if there is no water in the tank. I always suggest taking the rocks and decor out. You also may want to tape the glass (x ing with tape) if it is going to be in storage. This is basically for if something should fall against it. Unfortunately aquarium glass for the most part is not shatter proof.

you should be OK, aquarium glass is normally a little more durable and slightly thicker than other types of glass (Ex. Drinking glass).
When I moved to my house I cleaned and put bed linens(in plastic bags) then I taped an “X” on all sides of the tanks in case it cracked it would not shatter and the majority of glass would be held together if it did.
It didn’t so I am enjoying my saltwater tank to this day!
Good Luck!
